Which is the most difficult World Marathon Major race to complete?

"Each course has its own highs and lows," Adams, who has finished all six races, said. However, Boston and New York have the most hills in general: "Boston has Heartbreak Hill, and New York has the bridges," he explains.

  • "I'd put London in the middle in terms of difficulty because it can be crowded in the back and has a lot of 90-degree turns, followed by Tokyo (which can be rainy), Berlin, and Chicago, which are notoriously flat and fast."

Either way, you want to prep beforehand, because after waiting years for an entry, the last thing you want is a DNF.

How Does A Runner Become A World Marathon Major?

It is difficult for any marathon to become an Abbott World Marathon Major.

There are strict criteria that must be met in order to be designated as a Marathon Major, right down to the smallest details.

Meeting the detailed criteria is more than just jumping through hoops; it is intended to ensure that the Abbott World Marathon Majors are among the best-organized races in the world.

Marathon Majors are said to be an opportunity not only for the world's fastest runners to compete with fellow elites on a stage, but also for top race organisers to showcase their professionalism and perfection in the behind-the-scenes, along-the-race-course side of competitive running that is often overlooked.

How To Run All Six Abbott World Marathon Majors Races.

Earning a Six Star Medal and joining the exclusive club of Six-Star World Marathon finishers is not easy.

Running six marathons in a career is a challenge in and of itself; the marathon, with its 26.2-mile distance, is always a major test of one's physical and mental stamina, and many runners train for years before attempting a marathon, let alone six.

Given the relatively high risk of injury that can occur during marathon training, simply getting to the starting line healthy enough to run a marathon can be considered an accomplishment.

Then there are a slew of issues that can arise during the race, resulting in a disappointing DNF for many marathon starters.

It can take several years to gain entry into some or all of the World Marathon Majors unless you’re a speedy runner with no issue hitting your qualifying times.
