- PGA Tour signature events were established in 2024.
- There are a total of eight, not including the majors, playoff events and Players Championship.
- There will be smaller fields and increased purse sizes.
The PGA Tour has made some significant changes over the past few years, with one of the most significant being increasing the PGA Tour prize money payouts for tournaments.
In the process, the PGA Tour has a new classification system for their tournaments, and the Designated events has been rebranded with a new name, “PGA Tour Signature Events”
What are the ‘Signature events’ on the PGA TOUR?
PGA Tour designated, with New name Signature Events are overall 8 tournaments throughout the year that will have all of the best players competing for increased big money purses.
PGA Tour signature events — eight for the 2025 season — are limited-field tournaments with increased prize money (20 million purse) and FedExCup points (700 points to the winner).
In 2023, they were referred to as designated events.
The Sentry was the season’s first signature event and included PGA Tour winners from the previous calendar year, as well as the top 50 members from the 2024 FedExCup standings. Chris Kirk was the eventual champion.
The three player-hosted invitationals (The Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday) will feature a 36-hole cut to the top 50 and ties and any player within 10 shots of the lead, and a redistribution of prize money that allocates 20 percent to the winner ($4 million), up from 18 percent.
The remaining five signature events will not have a cut and will continue to allocate 18 percent to the winner.
PGA Tour Signature Events Qualifiers, format
Eligibility for the remaining eight signature events includes the top 50 members from the 2023-24 FedExCup standings, current year tournament winners, top 30 players in Official World Golf Rankings, 15 members who can play their way in through the Aon Next 10 and the Aon Swing 5 and four sponsors exemptions.
The Aon Next 10 is players inside the top 10 of the FedEx Cup standings a week prior to a signature event. The Aon Swing 5 is players who accumulate the most FedEx Cup points over the few weeks before a signature event.
