WNBA Legends Moore, Bird, and Fowles Enter Hall of Fame

The 2025 Naismith Hall of Fame class will make history on Sept. 6, when Maya Moore, Sue Bird, and Sylvia Fowles are enshrined together. It’s the first time three women are part of the same class, which also includes Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, and the 2008 U.S. men’s Olympic team.

Moore won four WNBA titles with the Minnesota Lynx and was the 2014 league MVP. Bird spent 19 seasons with the Seattle Storm, winning four championships and becoming the WNBA’s all-time leader in games and assists. Fowles starred for the Lynx and Chicago Sky, earning eight All-Star nods, two championships, and the 2017 MVP award.

Beyond the court, all three have been influential advocates. Moore stepped away from basketball to focus on criminal justice reform, Fowles has spoken out on systemic racism, and Bird continues to push for equality in women’s sports.

Current WNBA players credit them as role models. Brittney Griner recalled Fowles mentoring her as a rookie. Paige Bueckers called Moore one of her “GOATs,” citing her work in social justice. Teammates praised Bird’s leadership and ability to inspire.

On Saturday, they’ll officially join basketball’s greatest, honored by legends like Geno Auriemma, Swin Cash, Lindsey Whalen, and Tamika Catchings. For Fowles, the moment reflects her lifelong belief: “It wasn’t about me. It was bigger than me, the sport of basketball.”
