Royals rally in eighth, snap Mariners’ 10-game win streak.
Adam Frazier launched a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning as the Kansas City Royals scored four runs late to beat the Seattle Mariners 7-5 on Wednesday night, ending Seattle’s 10-game winning streak.
Eugenio Suárez broke out of a brutal 0-for-32 slump with four hits, including a two-run shot in the second, and finished with two RBIs and two runs. But Seattle slipped a half-game behind Houston in the AL West after the Astros also won.
Lucas Erceg (8-4) got the win despite surrendering J.P. Crawford’s game-tying homer in the top of the eighth. Carlos EstĂ©vez gave up a run in the ninth but still locked down his MLB-best 40th save. Mariners reliever Matt Brash (1-3) was tagged for four runs on four hits in just two-thirds of an inning.
Kansas City starter Cole Ragans, back for the first time since June 5 after a shoulder strain, struck out four and allowed two runs over 3 2/3 innings. He looked sharp early, firing six straight strikes to open the game and striking out the side on 10 pitches in the first.
Salvador Perez provided an early jolt with a towering 435-foot three-run homer in the first. Suárez’s second-inning blast cut the deficit, and he later doubled in the seventh to spark a rally that tied it 3-3 on Mitch Garver’s sacrifice fly.
Kansas City answered big in the eighth, capped by Frazier’s two-run shot to right to seize back control.
