Defending champion Eagles edge Cowboys 24-20 in wild, lightning-delayed NFL opener.
Jalen Hurts ran for two touchdowns as the Eagles survived a chaotic, storm-interrupted season opener to beat the Cowboys 24-20.
The game included a 65-minute lightning delay, an ejection, and a last-minute defensive stand. Dallas had a final chance, but Dak Prescott’s fourth-down pass fell incomplete with under two minutes left.
Hurts scored on runs of 4 and 8 yards, while Saquon Barkley added a 10-yard touchdown. Jake Elliott nailed a 58-yard field goal to close the Eagles’ scoring.
The night turned ugly when star defender Jalen Carter was ejected early for spitting on Prescott. Carter later apologized, but the incident overshadowed Philadelphia’s championship banner celebration.
Prescott threw for two short TDs to Javonte Williams, while Brandon Aubrey added field goals from 41 and 53 yards. CeeDee Lamb led Dallas with 110 receiving yards, though he missed a key second-half catch.
Despite the drama, the Eagles became the first defending Super Bowl champs since 2011 to score touchdowns on their first three drives of the season.
Injuries hit Philadelphia as lineman Landon Dickerson left with a back issue. On the Dallas sideline, new head coach Brian Schottenheimer lost his debut but remained optimistic: “I still think we can win a Super Bowl.”
