Alcaraz Seeks Revenge Against Djokovic in Blockbuster US Open Clash
Carlos Alcaraz eyes ‘revenge’ against Novak Djokovic in US Open semifinal
Normally, when a 22-year-old in peak condition faces a 38-year-old nearing the end of his career, youth has the advantage. But Novak Djokovic is no ordinary athlete.
Despite battling injuries all year, Djokovic has reached all four Grand Slam semifinals in 2025, becoming the oldest player ever to do so. He’s chasing his 25th major title and first US Open crown since 2023.
This season hasn’t been easy: a leg injury ended his Australian Open run, his body faltered at the French Open, and a groin issue hampered him at Wimbledon. He lost in the semifinals of all three. Even in his quarterfinal win over Taylor Fritz in New York, Djokovic looked drained at times. Still, with two days of rest before Friday’s blockbuster match, the 53-time Grand Slam semifinalist is determined.
“It’s not going to get easier,” Djokovic said. “I just want to be fit enough to play five sets with Carlos. My best tennis will be required.”
Alcaraz, meanwhile, is fresh and dominant. The 2022 US Open champion hasn’t dropped a set, cruising past Jiri Lehecka in under two hours. His serve has been lethal—winning 99% of service games and leading the field in second-serve points won.
The Spaniard admits this semifinal is personal. Djokovic leads their rivalry 5–3, including wins at this year’s Australian Open and in the Olympic final.
“I know he’s hungry,” Alcaraz said. “I really want revenge. That’s obvious.”
A win would not only even the score with Djokovic but also return Alcaraz to world No. 1. For now, he’s found calm on the golf course with countryman Sergio Garcia, but that peace will vanish under the lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium, where another classic clash is expected.
