Marquez Magic: Marc Marquez Ends Austrian Curse With Stunning Sprint Victory.
At the Red Bull Ring, Marc Marquez finally broke his Austrian Grand Prix curse, storming from fourth on the grid to clinch a spectacular sprint win—his 12th triumph in 13 races this season.
Marc Marquez has been unstoppable this season, but Austria had always eluded him—until now. On Saturday, the Ducati star delivered a masterclass, powering through the pack to seize victory in the Austrian Grand Prix sprint. The win not only extended his sprint dominance but also gave him his first-ever race victory on Austrian soil.
Even sweeter? He did it by beating his closest rival—his own brother, Alex Marquez—who finished second. KTM’s Pedro Acosta completed an all-Spanish podium, securing third place at his team’s home track.
Marquez Extends Title Lead
The result pushes Marc Marquez a commanding 123 points clear of Alex in the championship standings, and a massive 180 points ahead of Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia, whose race ended in heartbreak.
Bagnaia’s bike troubles saw him drop from contention after a disastrous wheelspin start left him tumbling down the order. Eventually, he was forced to retire, storming back to the pit lane visibly frustrated.
The Race Unfolds
Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi had set himself up for glory after grabbing his first pole of the season earlier on Saturday. But by the first corner, his hopes were dashed as the Marquez brothers powered past him, dropping the Italian to third.
Acosta quickly followed, overtaking Bezzecchi with precision to claim a podium spot. From there, it became a Marquez family affair. Alex set the early pace, but Marc bided his time, waiting for the moment the tyres began to fade.
“I was super confident in the start,” Marc explained. “When the tyres started to drop, I felt better—and that’s when I pushed.”
A Victory With Meaning
For Marc, this wasn’t just another win. It carried deep emotion. He dedicated the victory to Pau Alsina, the 17-year-old JuniorGP Spanish rider who tragically lost his life in a training accident last month.
“Super special sprint victory because I want to say that it’s for Pau Alsina. We miss him,” Marquez said, pointing to Alsina’s number 26 displayed on the back of his helmet.
He added: “I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, but the race is for him.”
