World Athlete of the Year Awards Winners List: The World Athlete of the Year award were handed out at the World Athletics Gala 2024 in Monte Carlo on 1 December. 

Olympic champions Sifan Hassan and Letsile Tebogo have been announced as World Athletes of the Year at the World Athletics Awards 2024 in Monaco.



The award was inaugurated in 1988 and goes to the best male and female track and field athletes of that calendar year.

Usain Bolt has collected the prize a record six times with Hicham El Guerrouj and Yelena Isinbaeva next on three apiece.

Two-time winners include Carl Lewis, Michael Johnson, Sanya Richards, Kenenisa Bekele, Eliud Kipchoge and Mondo Duplantis.

In 2005, World Athletics introduced the Rising Star of the Year award for the best under-20 athlete. Nafissatou Thiam took the prize before being named World Athlete of the Year 12 months later.

Erriyon Knighton is the only athlete to win two Rising Star awards.
