The 2025 Bank of America Chicago Marathon is just a little over days away from bringing thousands of runners to the city's streets for the annual fall race.

As Chicago braces for its biggest racing event of the year, what do runners, spectators and city residents need to know ahead of the event?



When is the 2025 Chicago Marathon?


The 47th running of the Chicago Marathon is scheduled to step off just after 7 a.m. on Sunday Oct. 12, 2025.



Where does the Chicago Marathon start and finish?


GRANT PARK: The race starts and finishes in Grant Park and travels through one of the world's most magnificent cities.

The course has produced four world records, several national records and countless personal bests.

Runners enjoy the support of 1.7 million spectators as they run through 29 neighborhoods.

How many runners are expected to race in Chicago?


Marathon organizers said they are prepared for more than 50,000+ participants in this year's event in 2025.



How do you get into the 2025 Chicago Marathon?


While the application for guaranteed or non-guaranteed entry to the 2025 Bank of America Chicago Marathon closed at  on Nov. 2025, there are still ways to run in this year’s marathon.

The first is qualifying for an entry via one of the following:

  • Charity Programs: Individuals interested in running and fundraising on behalf of an official event charity are eligible for a spot in the marathon. Charity program entries are limited and available on a first-come first-served basis. Fundraising requirements may vary depending on the selected charity, but participants are required to raise no less than $1,750 if the entry is claimed following the application window (open now until Sep., 2025).

  • International Tour Group: International (non – U.S.) runners are able to participate in the 2025 event with an official International Tour Group Program partner. Tour partners typically offer participants a package that includes cost of entry, air travel, hotel, etc. and vary between tour operators. Although not all countries have approved Chicago Marathon tour partners, more information can be found in the International Tour Group Index. Applications are open until Aug. 2025 with more information on the Charity Index.



Is there a time limit to finish the Chicago Marathon race?



YES: The Chicago marathon requires participants to complete the course time limit of 26.2 mile race distance in at least six hours and 30 minutes.

Those who finish outside of the time limit will not be recorded as official finishers and may not receive full on-course support from aid stations and traffic safety personnel.

How can I watch the 2025 Chicago Marathon race live ON TV Channel?



NBC 5 Chicago and Telemundo Chicago will offer complete live TV coverage and live streaming of the 2025 Chicago Marathon in both English and Spanish.


The live television broadcasts will air from 7 – 11 a.m. CT and the live stream will be available at nbcchicago.com and telemundochicago.com.

Live broadcasts will also be available on the NBC 5 and Telemundo Chicago apps, and on the stations’ Roku and Apple TV channels from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. CT.

A live finish line camera will stream from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the websites and apps.



How Much Prize Money do the Bank of America Chicago Marathon Winners Take Home?




Overall, the top five finishers in the open division and the top ten finishers in the wheelchair money come away with prize money.

With a total of $460,000 in prize money for the open division ($230,000 for men and $230,000 for women), the breakdown is as follows:



5th Place: $25,000

4th Place: $30,000

3rd Place: $45,000

2nd Place: $55,000

1st Place: $75,000

The wheelchair division included a total of ten prize winners for men and women each, with a total of $150,500 in prize money ($75,250 for men and $75,250 for women). The prize money breakdown is as follows:



10th Place: $750

9th Place: $1,000

8th Place: $1,500

7th Place: $2,000

6th Place: $3,000

5th Place: $5,000

4th Place: $7,000

3rd Place: $12,000
