Aussies Chalmers, O'Callaghan Wins 100m freestyle world title

2023 Swimming's world championships: Australia's Chalmers won men's 100m freestyle world title,






Australia's Kyle Chalmers won the men's 100m freestyle at swimming's world championships.


Chalmers finished in a time of 47.15sec, ahead of Jack Alexy of the United States in 47.31 and France's Maxime Grousset in 47.42.

Chalmers, the 2016 Olympic champion, picked up his first world championship individual gold medal.

Romania's David Popovici, the defending champion and world record holder, was sixth in 47.83.



2023 Swimming's world championships: Australia's O'Callaghan wins women 100m freestyle world title




Australia's Mollie O'Callaghan won the women's 100m freestyle at swimming's world championships on Friday.

O'Callaghan, who won the 200m freestyle title earlier in the week, finished in a time of 52.16sec, ahead of Hong Kong's Siobhan Haughey in 52.49 and Marrit Steenbergen of the Netherlands in 52.71.



O'Callaghan became the first woman ever to achieve a 100-200 freestyle double at the world championships.

It was her second individual title of the competition and her fourth overall.

She beat fellow Australian Ariarne Titmus to win the 200m freestyle in world record time.
