Jonathan Marchessault wins 2023 Conn Smythe Trophy

Stanley Cup Final 2023: Golden Knights' Jonathan Marchessault wins Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.

One of the six surviving original Vegas Golden Knights, Jonathan Marchessault, has been named the 2023 NHL playoff MVP and has been awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy after leading the Vegas Golden Knights to the 2023 Stanley Cup title.

Marchessault finished second to teammate Jack Eichel in points with 25, and he shared the postseason lead in goals (13) with 13.

Marchessault had just two assists through the first seven playoff games and was well out of contention for the Conn Smythe Trophy. He then began accumulating points like they were going out of style. Marchessault has 13 goals and 10 assists in the last 15 games.

Marchessault accumulated a total of four goals and four assists in the Stanley Cup Final alone. He destroyed the Panthers and put the finishing touches on his Conn Smythe Trophy campaign.

  • The 5-foot-9, 183-pound Quebec native said he would not be satisfied until he won a championship.

The fact that Marchessault, who was undrafted out of junior hockey, won it after upsetting his old team in the Stanley Cup Final, made the occasion even more remarkable. In his time with the Panthers in 2016–17, Marchessault scored 51 points in 75 games.

Marchessault is the first undrafted player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy since Wayne Gretzky.
