The midfielder ran off into the goal corner to celebrate as his teammates followed behind, wild hands throttling the air, pearly teeth glaring, and obtusely wide eyes held back in his skull only by the air pressure.

As his studs planted into the ground, they tore the turf and flung blades of grass in all directions. The trophy that history seems to be trying to keep from Manchester City was eventually won, adding to the cabinet's ever-expanding collection.

How many trophies have Manchester City won?

When the club was acquired by Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment in 2008, Manchester City's ascent to fame began.

City had only twice previously won the First Division of English football, with only one of those victories coming after World War II, prior to the rich royal family's investment.

Blues' won two post-World War II FA Cups and two League Cups. In 1970, they also took home the European Cup Winners' Cup. To put these figures into perspective, they have a shared record of seven Second Division victories.

By no means little, but neither all-powerful nor obviously unstoppable either. Since Abu Dhabi took over, they have amassed many more victories, including six League Cups, three FA Cups, and the current Champions League.
