US PGA Championship 2023: Brooks Koepka beats Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland at Oak Hill for 5th major title.
With a final-round 3-under 67, Brooks-Koepka won his third PGA championship and sixth major championship. He also moved to 9 under par for the competition, two shots ahead of Scottie-Scheffler and Viktor-Hovland.
Koepka is the sixth player to have won three or more PGAs and the 20th player overall to have won at least five majors.
In order to regain his status as the majors' hardest-to-beat player, Koepka started the round with three straight birdies, never relinquished the lead despite a valiant effort from Viktor Hovland, and finished with a 3-under 67 for a two-shot triumph.
Only Jack Nicklaus, Walter Hagen, and Tiger Woods have won the PGA Championship more times than he did. He also won his third Wanamaker Trophy and his first major in four years.
Koepka defeated Scottie Scheffler, who finished with a 65 to return to the top of the world rankings, and hard-luck Hovland by two shots. Koepka looked as strong as ever and dispelled any doubts.
The California club pro Michael Block, who put on an incredible four-day performance, and Koepka received the greatest applause.
Block shot a hole-in-one on the 15th hole while paired with Rory McIlroy, and he finished with two incredibly difficult par putts for his fourth consecutive 70.
Block's ace, the first at this championship since 2020, helped him tie for 15th place, earning him an exemption for the competition at Valhalla the following year.
He earned a spot at the PGA Championship for the next year by tying for 15th.
