- Switzerland booked their place in the World Cup knockout stages with a 3-2 victory, but only after suffering a huge scare from Serbia in an epic four-goal first-half.
Given that Serbia, led by Dragan Stojkovic, needed at least a victory to potentially advance to the World Cup knockout rounds, it was no surprise that they were the team that was playing aggressively.
The better team, Serbia, equalised through a trademark Aleksandar Mitrovic header in the 20th minute after Xherdan Shaqiri had given Switzerland the lead with a deflected shot.
Serbia then unexpectedly took the lead when Dusan Vlahovic found the bottom corner, briefly moving them up to second place in Group G.
Breel Embolo provided a late-game comeback for Switzerland in a thrilling first half, but they soon took the lead again thanks to an outstanding team goal that Remo Freuler finished off.
Serbia dropped to last place with just one point after Switzerland resolutely battled to the finish.
