FIFA World Cup 2022: Rashford, Foden stars, help England into last 16 by thrashed Wales 3-0, player ratings.

After a thrilling second half performance by Marcus Rashford double strike and Wondering kid Phil Foden inspired England  England eliminate Wales from the World Cup with a 3-0 win which also secured top spot in Group B and set up a last-16 matchup with Senegal...

The Three Lions will progress to the last 16 as group winners with all three points, while Wales - who lost 2-0 to Iran on Friday - must triumph and hope that other results go their way to stand a chance of making it through.

In the first World Cup finals match between two British teams, he first won a free-kick, which Rashford wonderfully converted (50), and then he tucked in at the back post (51) seconds later to put his nation on pace for an eventual easy victory.

Rashford, who had previously scored in the rout of Iran in the first game, highlighted his own stellar play with a superb second (68),
taking up a pass over the top from substitute Kalvin Phillips before cutting inside his defender and shooting between Danny Ward's legs.

Soon after, as he pursued a hat-trick, he sent the Wales goalkeeper reeling at his near post. He now appears to be a lock to start when England takes on Senegal on Sunday.

Wales performed well to contain their opponents in the first half but never really threatened to produce the upset necessary. Wales needed a win and a positive outcome in the other group game to continue their first World Cup journey since 1958.

Only a deflected long-range effort from Kieffer Moore forced Jordan Pickford to work in the England goal during their first shot, which came in first-half stoppage time.
