Bale's Strikes late Wales left it for the thrilling end to earn a point against the United States in their first World Cup finals match since 1958.



After a tentative start, the USA twice nearly took the lead after nine minutes. Initially, Joe Rodon's forceful header toward his own goal cannoned off goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, and then, just a few seconds later, Josh Sargent headed wide from an exquisite Tim Weah cross.

Turner made his first save off of a header from Davies after a Wilson free-kick, and Wales upped the ante with Moore's effort from the ensuing corner that went just over the bar.

Gareth Bale was fouled by Walker Zimmerman with ten minutes remaining, and Wales was given a penalty. The LAFC forward slammed his spot kick into the top corner.

United States vs Wales - Key Stats.




Wales are playing in the World Cup finals for the first time in 64 years, while the US return after failing to qualify for the 2018 edition.

The last time Wales played in the World Cup, in 1958, they reached the quarter-finals, suff ering a 1-0 defeat to eventual champions Brazil as Pele scored the winner.

The US reached the final 16 in their last appearance in 2014, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Belgium.

Wales qualified for the Qatar World Cup by beating Ukraine 1-0 in a playoff final after a 2-1 victory over Austria in the last four. Rob Page’s side had sealed second place in their qualifying group behind Belgium.

US qualified after finishing third in CONCACAF qualifying behind Canada and Mexico.
