FIFA World Cup 2022: Mexico defeats Saudi Arabia but knocked out of the Tournament on goal difference, player ratings.

Mexico dramatically knocked out on the World Cup in the last 16 round despite a spirited 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia, as Poland advances as Group C runners-up by virtue of a superior goal difference.

Green Falcons Have shocked Argentina with victory over Lionel Messi's side, while the Saudi Arabia were brought back down to earth by Poland in a 2-0 defeat.

Mexico missed the chance to advance last 16 round for the first time since 1994.

Henry Martin's first-half goal and Luis Chavez's spectacular free-kick, along with Argentina's 2-0 victory over Poland, made for an exciting Group C finale at the Lusail Stadium.

Mexico had three stoppage-time minutes to score the third goal necessary to avoid leaving the group due to a low fair play point total.

Salem Al-Dawsari scored in stoppage time to force Mexico to require two more goals and all but kill their prospects of passing Poland in the standings.

Saudi Arabia's dreams of obtaining the victory needed to cement their advance into the round of 16 fell short.
