FIFA World Cup 2022: Senegal thrashed Host Qatar 3-1, entering into Elimination race, player ratings.

Host Qatar is staring at the World Cup Early Elimination.

Senegal got first win of the tournament, as the the Lions of Teranga side thrashed the host team for second straight loss at home tournament in Group A after seizing on a defensive error from the Qatar team for the opening goal in a 3-1 victory.

If Netherlands and Ecuador draw in the day's other Group A match, or if the Dutch win, Qatar could be eliminated from the World Cup on Friday, less than a week into the competition it has been training for for 12 years.

Senegal, on the other hand, rebounded from a 2-0 defeat to the Netherlands in the opening game.

Senegal's Boulaye Dia scored the opening goal against Qatar when Senegal defender Boualem Khoukhi attempted to make a clearance under no pressure, failed to connect, and fell on his backside. Khoukhi saw the ball dribble away.

At the start of the second half, Famara Diedhiou made it 2-0 with a header from a corner while being unopposed by two Qatari defenders.

Although Akram Afif was clear on the left and was then knocked over by a charging Ismaila Sarr, Qatar was denied a penalty and the opportunity to take the lead before Dia's goal. Despite the fact that replays appeared to show that contact was made, Spanish referee Antonio Mateu did not call for a penalty.
