Morocco stuns Belgium 2-0 to keeps last 16 hope alive

FIFA World Cup 2022: Sabiri & Aboukhlal scores, Morocco blows another WC Upsets to beat Belgium, Hopes alive for Last 16, Player Ratings.

Thanks to Abdelhamid Sabiri and Zakaria Aboukhlal goals scores, Morocco claims only their third World Cup win against FIFA's second-best ranked team Red Devils Belgium sealed a historic 2-0 victory at Al Thumama Stadium.

After edging out Canada in their opening match, the Red Devils will now seek to tame the Atlas Lions, who held Croatia to a goalless draw.

Sabiri scored in the 73rd minute, beating Thibaut Courtois at his near post with an impressively tight angle, and in stoppage time of the second half, Aboukhlal converted a cross from Hakim Ziyech to seal a historic victory.

The North Africans have joined Saudi Arabia and Japan, who respectively defeated Argentina and Germany, in defying the odds and shocking opponents who have historically enjoyed long-standing success on the international stage.

Although by no means eliminated, Belgium may now need to defeat Croatia in a Group F matchup to advance to the round of 16 given that both of those countries finished on the podium in Russia just four years ago.

Previously, Confident Morocco ends 0-0 goalless draw with Croatia in its first game and boosted its chances of reaching the knockout round for first time since 1986 — the only time it has ever advanced.
