Tunisia 0-1 Australia final scores: Mitchell Duke's first-half goal gives Socceroos first win of World Cup 2022




Australia lighten-up their World Cup campaign into life thanks to a 1-0 win over Tunisia, winning goal scored by Mitchell Duke's excellent first-half header.



The Socceroos' knew that another loss would send their World Cup home with one match remaining after losing their opening match to France on Tuesday.

Graham Arnold's team came out fighting and forced Tunisia to play the majority of the opening exchanges inside their own half.

In the 23rd minute, Australia's pressure paid off when Craig Goodwin's left-wing cross deflected and found Duke. Duke then readjusted brilliantly to guide a glancing header past the helpless Aymen Dahmen and inside the far post.



While Australia, who now sit second in Group D with three points ahead of France's match against Denmark on Saturday afternoon, was more resilient than Tunisia after the break.

Tunisia are bottom with just one point and zero goals.

Australia's win over Tunisia was just their third at a World Cup - Socceroos hadn’t won at the World Cup since beating Serbia in 2010 and it means the Socceroos still have a chance to qualify for the round of 16, despite losing to defending champion France 4-1 in their opening match.
