Alpinista defeated Vadeni, won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe title 2022 for the 74-year-old British trainer Sir Mark Prescott.
Jockey Luke Morris steered the grey mare to victory in Europe's richest event, the popular Prescott's biggest success in 53 years of training.
- Alpinista defeated Vadeni, who was ridden by Christophe Soumillon, with 2021 winner Torquator Tasso finishing third for Frankie Dettori.
- It constituted a first British-trained Arc winner since Enable in 2018, and was just the second for a five-year-old mare following that of Corrida in 1937..
Prescott, a renowned raconteur schooled at Harrow School, lives alone and rises before 4 a.m. every day.
Prescott was moved to tears as Alpinista, owned and bred by Kirsten Rausing, won her sixth Group One victory in a row.
The 7-2 favourite was greeted with wild applause as he returned to the winner's cage.
