  • Geelong has claimed the 10th VFL-AFL flag in club history, thumping Sydney by 81 points to win the 2022 Grand Final, in a dominant performance befitting a dominant season.



In one of the biggest wins in Grand Final history, Geelong prevailed 20.13 (133) to 8.4 (52).

Veteran superstars like Patrick Dangerfield (first flag), Joel Selwood (fourth, becoming the first player to win four flags at Geelong), and Isaac Smith were unchallenged as the Cats prevailed in a premiership victory that solidified their history (his fourth but first at Geelong, winning the Norm Smith).



The seasoned Cats, who finished with the oldest 22 in VFL-AFL history, demonstrated this in the first term by blitzing the far younger Swans and kicking out to the greatest quarter-time advantage in 33 years of Grand Finals.


Despite coming off the bench, Selwood was amazing in the first quarter, topping all players with 12 disposals. The Swans improved in the second quarter, only losing to the Cats by a point and exchanging goals.

The outcome was made clear by a third quarter of six goals, throwing Geelong players and fans into a frenzy.

When Joel Selwood scored in the waning seconds of the game, the four-flag veteran's emotions overflowed.





The Geelong Cats 2022 AFL premiership title is their second under Chris Scott and their first since 2011, his initial season as senior coach.

With 100,024 people in the stands, the it’s the biggest crowd in the AFL era since 1986.
