US Open 2022 First round: Andy Murray wins New York opener, Dart shocks Kasatkina, Draper stars.
- Britain's Andy Murray shied his gestures and passion to knocked out Argentines 24th seed Francisco Cerundolo with a first-round win.
The 35-year-old Murray claimed the close first set 7-5 and then impressively won the next two 6-3 6-3 as Cerundolo grew discouraged.
Murray will be joined in the following round by Jack Draper, who defeated Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland 6-4 6-3 6-3.
The 26-year-old, world No. 88, Harriet Dart defeated Daria Kasatkina 7-6 (10-8) 1-6 6-3 to earn her first main-draw victory in New York and her first victory over a 10th seed.
Kyle Edmund, a former British number one, was playing in his first Grand Slam singles match after suffering a significant knee injury, but he fell to Norway's fifth seed Casper Ruud, losing 6-3 7-5 6-2.
