World Athletics Championships: Nafissatou Thiam beat Anouk Vetter to talls in 800m to wins world heptathlon gold
- Belgium's double Olympic champion Nafissatou Thiam reclaimed the world heptathlon title in emphatic style on Monday when she produced a personal best in the final 800 metres to see off the challenge of Dutch rival Anouk Vetter.
Although Vetter entered the final event 19 points ahead of Thiam, which translates to 1.3 seconds over 800 metres, her personal best was more nearly two seconds slower than Thiam's. Anouk Vetter finished second to Thiam for silver in Tokyo last year.
In order to win a second world gold medal after 2017, Thiam displayed her class by achieving a tremendous personal best by more than two seconds of 2:13.00.
