Winter Olympics: Muirhead's Star helps Great Britain thrashed Japan 10-3 wins Only Gold in Women's curling team in Beijing 2022..
Eve Muirhead could not hold back the tears as she stood on top of the podium after leading Britain to victory over Japan 10-3 in the women's curling final on Sunday, securing the nation's only gold medal of the Beijing Games.
Muirhead drew the British fans watching in the Ice Cube to their feet when she scored a superb four in the seventh end to effectively clinch the title.
It emulates the gold won by Rhona Howie's team at Salt Lake City in 2002.
Team GB end the Games with two medals after Bruce Mouat's men won curling silver on Saturday.
- Skip Muirhead, who won bronze in 2014, finally has her gold medal at her fourth Olympics after returning from hip surgery, while Vicky Wright, Jen Dodds, and Hailey Duff are champions at their first attempt.
- Satsuki Fujisawa's Japan won their second straight Olympic medal, going one better than their finish in Pyeongchang four years ago when they pipped Britain to bronze.
- The result also served as redemption for Muirhead, whose mistake in the Pyeongchang bronze medal match saw Japan finish on the podium instead of Britain.
