A storming display of skiing helped Quentin Fillon Maillet of France to bounce back from two misses on the shooting range as he won his first Olympic gold medal in the men's individual 20km gold medal at the Beijing Olympics after another action-filled race.
Fillon Maillet and Thingnes Boe both missed two targets -- leading to time penalties -- but the Frenchman was faster on the skis to finish in 48:47.4.
The World Cup leader added the solo gold to the mixed relay silver he won on Earlier, with Anton Smolski of Belarus, the only athlete to hit all 20 targets in the shooting taking the silver 14.8 seconds behind after a perfect display of shooting and Norway's Johannes Thingnes Boe bagging the bronze finished 31.1 seconds .
Fillon Maillet now adds a first Olympic title to a resume that also includes two world championship golds.
Thingnes Boe, the 2018 champion in the individual race, had a great chance for another gold before missing a shot on the final range.
Representing the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Maxim Tsvetkov made the early running shows an error that saw him eventually end up fourth and just outside the podium places.
