Portuguese Start, Cristiano Ronaldo & Argentina Forward Lionel Messi both has been nominated for UEFA Men's player of the year award 2018/19 for the record 9th times so far.


Both Ronaldo and Messi have won the prize in its previous editions as the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award four & three times respectively.

 Real Madrid leads Barcelona 4-3 in terms of UEFA Men's player of the year winners in the first eight editions of the competition. Bayern (with Franck Ribéry) are the only other club to boast a UEFA Men's Player of the Year.
Aside from Messi and Ronaldo, no player has been shortlisted more than once.

 The prize was initially known as the UEFA Best Player in Europe award, changing to its current name from the 2017 edition.
