The 175th annual running of the Grand National horse race at Aintree Racecourse remains the people's race and in the First week of April every year 40 runners List to tackle 30 fences in the world's most famous steeplechase.

 £1 million in prize money will be at stake on Saturday, April 6 at Aintree for the 175nd edition of the race.











Aintree recently confirmed that this year's prize money is the same as last year with a £1 million purse and the top-10 finishers receiving a cheque:


 With 40 runners, this means only 25% of the horses will get prize money. But going down to 10th place is much further down than any other race on the racing calendar.

What is the prize money for the Grand National 2023?




The most prestigious race on the National Hunt calendar will take place on Saturday, with 40 horses all competing to win the Grand National.



Since the Grand National is regarded as the greatest horse race in the world, with global TV viewing figures of between 500 to 600 million, it will come as no surprise at all that the winner will receive a hefty pay cheque.


How much money does the winner of the Grand National 2023 get? This year’s Grand National will have a total prize fund of £1,000,000, with more than half of this sum (£561,300) awarded to the winner.

There is a £350k difference between finishing first and second, that is £211K.
 Third takes home just over £100k, while 4th pockets £52k in cash, with 5th netting £26k –


  The winning jockey only gets eight percent of that £561,300 plus their standard fee of £164.74..

 They will also have an agreed percentage of any prize money, much like a professional golfer arranges with their caddie, of around eight percent.

 That means riding a National winner could be worth an additional £45,000 in earnings.

The Grand National prize pot still remains a little shy of the money on offer at the Epsom Derby, where £1.25m is on offer.



Who won the Grand National last year, Grand National 20222 Winner?


Last year’s edition was won by Noble Yeats, trained by Emmet Mullins and ridden by Sam Waley-Cohen at final odds of 50/1.

Waley-Cohen, who was competing in his last ever race before retirement, became the first amateur jockey to win the Grand National since Marcus Armytage in 1990.

Noble Yeats also became the first seven year-old to claim the top spot since Bogskar back in 1940.
