The Volvo Ocean Race usually knows as Whitbread Round the World Race is a Yacht race organized every 3 years.
Now this race is called its original owner a Swedish Automobile manufacturer Volvo Cars.
The 1st edition of Volvo Ocean Race was held in 1973-74
The Netherlands holds the record for most 3 wins, with Dutchman Conny van Rietschoten the only skipper to win (podium) the race two times.
The Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18 covered 45,000 nautical miles, which is the longest route in the Volvo Ocean Race history..
Currently, in the 2017-18 Race, the Volvo Ocean 65 boats have been used.

The first all-female team ever to compete was Maiden, skippered by Tracy Edwards, back in 1989-90. The last time an all-female team competed in the race was in 2001-02 when Lisa Charles (now Lisa McDonald) skippered Amer Sports Too.
