IPL mega auction 2025: How much money was spent in each edition of previous Indian Premier League auctions since 2008?
The IPL 2025 auction is set to be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking only the second time it will take place outside India.
Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history after Lucknow Super Giants acquired his services for a whopping Rs. 27.00 cr during the IPL 2025 mega auction held at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah on Sunday. He pipped Shreyas Iyer, who was sold to Punjab Kings for 26.75 crore.
The IPL 2025 auction is set to be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking only the second time it will take place outside India.
A total of 1574 players initially registered for the IPL 2025 mega auction, but that number has been trimmed down to 574 players, comprising 366 Indians, 208 overseas players and three players from associate nations.
204 slots will be up for grabs with 70 available slots for overseas players. The 2025 edition will be the eighteenth instalment of the IPL auction.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) increased the purse of the franchises by a further Rs 10 Crore from the previous mini auction in 2024. The purse for each franchise for IPL 2025 was increased to Rs 120 Crore.
In the recent IPL 2024 auction, the Rs 200 Crore-mark was breached for the first time in a mini auction as franchises broke the bank to land players, especially a record-breaking buy of Australia pacer Mitchell Starc and the second biggest buy of his compatriot Pat Cummins.

The press release also mentioned that the salary cap for IPL that the salary cap for IPL Auction 2026 will increase to INR 151 crore, and for IPL Auction 2027 it will be INR 157 crore.
