How much prize money do the New York City Marathon winners get? Here's how much they can earn in 2025.
- The men’s and women’s winners will receive $100,000. The wheelchair winners got less — but made up for some of it with bonuses.
There’s a lot of prize money to be given out to this year’s New York City Marathon winners.
The total guaranteed prize purse at the marathon this year is $900,000.
Last Year - Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands won the 2024 men's race, and Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya won the women's race, each received $100,000.
Marcel Hug and Susannah Scaroni, the wheelchair champions, will receive $25,000.

The top American finishers in the men’s and women’s races will receive $25,000. The prize for the top nonbinary runner is $5,000.
There are additional time bonuses available for runners who break course records — and the wheelchair winners earned them. Both Hug and Scaroni broke the course record and will receive $50,000 each.
There is also a prize of $50,000 for male or female runners who break the course records, in this race, none of the Races break the course record,

Prizes are awarded for the top 10 runners in the Open Division. Those prizes are as follows:
1st — $100,000
2nd — $60,000
3rd — $40,000
4th — $25,000
5th — $15,000
6th — $10,000
7th — $7,500
8th — $5,000
9th — $2,500
10th — $2,000
Only athletes competing in the Professional Athlete Invitational Start are eligible for Open Division prize money.

Top American finishers in the men's and women's races will receive the following prizes:
First: $25,000
Second: $15,000
Third: $10,000
Fourth: $5,000
Fifth: $3,000
Awards are also given to the top three runners in the Masters Division, which includes participants age 40 and older:

Second: $2,000
Third: $1,000

The top six finishers in the men's and women's wheelchair division will also receive prizes:
First: $35,000
Second: $20,000
Third: $15,000
Fourth: $10,000

Participants in the Open Division and Wheelchair Division who break course records can also receive a $50,000 bonus.
