Thriston Lawrence wins European Masters at 1st playoff hole

European Masters 2022: Thriston Lawrence beat Matt Wallace wins the 2nd world tour victory in a play-off in Switzerland.




  • Thriston Lawrence beats Wallace to clinched second DP World Tour victory of the season in a par on the first playoff hole before Matt Wallace sent a five-foot putt left to make bogey at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland on Sunday.



When Lawrence recorded a final-round 69 at Crans-sur-Sierre GC, his three-shot overnight lead vanished. Wallace, Lawrence's playing partner, moved alongside him on 18 under after shooting a bogey-free 66, only to defeat the Englishman on the first extra play-off hole.



  • Thriston Lawrence, he 25-year-old, earned his second title on the European tour this season — and a prize money of 333,333 euros ($332,000)



Lawrence's second victory followed his first, in the season-opening Joburg Open in November of last year. The 25-year-old was moved up to ninth place in the Race to Dubai standings and entered the top 100 for the first time in his career with the victory.

"It's a privilege to be able to take this victory," Lawrence said. "There's so much history going around this event, all the past champions, so can't wait to get my hands on that trophy.

"I was happy with my patience this week and just so pleased to be able to win."
