Tony Finau wins third PGA Tour title at 3M Open 2022 title after late strike, Piercy collapse, Prize money
- American Tony Finau capitalised on a final-round collapse by Scott Piercy to secure a third PGA Tour title with a three-stroke victory at the 3M Open in Minneapolis.
Finau won the 3M Open by three strokes on Sunday after shooting a 4-under 67. He overcame a five-stroke deficit with 11 holes remaining at the windy TPCTwinCities, where Scott Piercy lost the lead.
In a tie for second place, Sungjae Im (68) and Emiliano Grillo (71). Piercy shot a painful 76 to tie for fourth place, four strokes back after his 54-hole tournament record performance. To tie Piercy and Tom Hoge (70) at 13 under, James Hahn shot a 65 to move up the front.
Prior to a triple-bogey meltdown on hole No. 14, Piercy bogeyed four out of six holes, giving Finau, who was playing in the prior trio, a chance to seize control. The 32-year-old Finau recorded the largest winning rally in this competition's four iterations, to Piercy's kind congratulations outside the scoring tent.
This was the fourth time in six tries that Piercy held or shared the three-round lead and failed to win the tournament.
