  • Nadal extended his men’s singles record of 22 Grand Slam titles with a win in straight sets over Casper Ruud to wins the record 14th French Open title.



The Spaniard captured his 14th Roland Garros title and record-extending 22nd Grand Slam title with a 6-3, 6-3- 6-0 victory over 23-year-old Casper Ruud of Norway. He became the oldest man ever to win the French Open.

Nadal won the last 11 games after trailing 3-1 in the second set.



  • 17 years ago to the day after he won his first French Open title in 2005 at age 19, Rafael Nadal is still dominating his favorite tennis tournament at the ripe old age of 36.

He moves two ahead of his great rivals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.



Nadal, who lost to Djokovic in the semi-finals last year, has won 112 of his 115 matches on the Paris clay.

After winning the 2022 Australian Open in January, Nadal has claimed back-to-back major titles for the first time since 2010 - when he won the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open in a row.



No man or woman ever has won the singles trophy at any major event more than his 14 in Paris.

And No man has won more Grand Slam titles than Nadal.





 Nadal’s latest win came one day after her huge fan, Polish, Iga ĹšwiÄ…tek won her second French Open with a straight-sets win over American Coco Gauff, 18, in 35th straight match.

Looking towards his box, Nadal said, “Team, family, everybody who is there, it’s just completely amazing the things that are happening this year, so I just can thank you very, very much for all the things that you are doing with me and you did over the years, no? Without you, nothing of this will be possible, without any doubt no? Especially in the very tough moment that we went through in terms of injuries.



“If I don’t have a great support from team, family, everybody that have been next to me, nothing of this will be possible because I will be retired much before so many, many thanks for everything.”

He added: “I don’t know what can happen in the future but I’m going to keep fighting to try to keep going, so many thanks. Thank you very much, everyone.”




Nadal advanced to his 14th final by conquering the more harder top half of the draw. He defeated four seeded players, including first-round won over Thompson,     to defeat Seed No. 9 Auger-Aliassime in fourth round win
  world No. 1 & reigning champion Djokovic in historic French Open quarters wins, and No. 3 Zverev in an emotional triumph in which the German tore ligaments in his right ankle trying to run down a Nadal forehand.



During the second and third sets, Nadal won 11 consecutive games. With Ruud serving at 0-5 in the third set, Nadal broke again, this time with a backhand up the line and a handshake with Ruud at the net.

“It’s your 14th time here, 22nd all-around in Grand Slams and we all know what a champion you are,” Ruud said. “And today I got to feel how it is to play against you in a final and it’s not easy.

“I’m not the first victim, I know there have been many before.”

He added: “You are a true inspiration for me, for everyone who follows tennis around the world, so we all hope that you will continue for some more time.”
