- Australia's Stephanie Gilmore surfed her way through the field to claim a record-breaking eighth Surfing world title in California, while Brazil's Filipe Toledo claimed his first to cement his reputation as the world's best small wave surfer.
The Stephanie Gilmore, who won her first title as a rookie in 2007, overcame Hawaii's five-times world champion Carissa Moore in decent waves at Lower Trestles, near San Clemente.

Top seed, 27-year-old Toledo, beat high-flying countryman Italo Ferreira to extend the dominance of the "Brazilian Storm" won the maiedn men's WSL title.

The 2022 CT season will start with 36 men and 18 women, and then be reduced to 22 men and 10 women after the mid-season cut.
