France became the first nation to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals as the quarter-finals are underway, with now 7 teams left struggling for the ultimate world champions prize.


The FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-finals are finally underway, with the eight remaining teams facing off until July 11 to book their places in the last four.

 France became the first semi-finalist of the expanded 48-team edition in North America with a 2-0 win over Morocco at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on July 10.

France 

France has found different ways to win games this summer. After a slow start against Senegal, they easily beat Iraq and Norway. Sweden's goalkeeper played well in roun of 32, but France scored just before halftime and won 3-0.

During their flawless run to the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals, In Group H, La Roja kicked off their campaign with a 0–0 draw against Cabo Verde, followed by a dominant 4–0 victory over Saudi Arabia, and secured the top spot in the group by defeating Uruguay 1–0.
 Advancing into the knockout rounds, they cruised past Austria with a commanding 3–0 win in the Round of 32. 
In the Round of 16, they edged out rivals Portugal 1–0 courtesy of a dramatic late winner from substitute Mikel Merino,
 who repeated his heroics just days later by scoring an 88th-minute strike to eliminate Belgium 2–1 in the quarterfinals, officially booking Spain's ticket to a blockbuster semi-final clash against France.  



When do the FIFA World Cup Semifinals start?


The conclusion of the football world cup quarterfinals and the start of the semis on Tuesday, July 14. The second final four tie is just a day later on Wednesday, July 15.

Both fixtures are scheduled for 3 p.m. ET kickoff times (12 p.m. PT, 8 p.m. BST) to ensure that as many different territories can comfortably tune in. There need not be so many sleepy school children later this month.
