Just a week after the Grand National at Aintree, Ayr becomes the host as the Scottish Grand National takes centre-stage.

Willie Mullins will be hoping to pull off a hat-trick in the iconic race after training the last two winners in Scotland.





Horses jump in Scottish Grand National

The Scottish Grand National takes place a week after the Grand National.

Captain Cody, ridden by Harry Cobden, came out on top last year, following up Mullins' Macdermott winning in 2024.

This year, Midlands Grand National winner Isaac des Obeaux is one of the favourites, along with King of Answers.


When is the Scottish Grand National 2026, Dates

The festival as a whole will run across two days of action, with the first day kicking things off on Friday, April 17.

The Scottish Grand National will take place on Saturday, April 18.


What time does the Scottish Grand National Start

It is scheduled to get started at 3:45pm BST at Ayr Racecourse.


Where is the Scottish Grand National Held?

The home of the Scottish National is Ayr, the jewel of Scottish racing. Sitting on the south-west coast, Ayr racecourse is no ordinary venue. Racing at Ayr stretches back to 1771, which makes it older than most of the stone cottages in the town centre and a fair few of its pubs.

Scottish Grand National 2026 Horses Entries: Runners and riders

A maximum field of 30 runners will be permitted for the race.

The following 49 horses are entries into the Scottish Grand National ahead of the official confirmations on race week.

Jockeys are not yet confirmed for the meeting either.

Scottish Grand National 2026: Full Schedule, Race Start-Times

The full race list for the Scottish Grand National Festival is yet to be confirmed, but details have been made available.

On Friday, April 17, gates open for fans and punters at 11:45am, before the first race of Ladies Day gets started at 1:45pm.

The last race of the opening day is then scheduled for 5:15pm.

On Saturday, April 18, Grand National day, gates open at 11am.

The first race of the day starts at 1:10pm, with the Scottish Grand National at 3:45pm and the last race at 4:50pm.
