Ogden, Utah — Niklas Edin won his record eighth World Men’s Curling Championship on Saturday, leading Sweden to a 9-6 victory over Canada’s Matt Dunstone in the gold medal final.The 40-year-old Swedish skip, along with vice Oskar Eriksson, second Rasmus Wranaa, and lead Christoffer Sundgren, delivered a dominant performance. Sweden scored deuces four times with the hammer and held Canada to single points, finishing with superior shooting percentages (90% team, 95% for Edin).
Dunstone, in his first world championship as skip, earned silver alongside teammates Colton Lott, E.J. Harnden, and Ryan Harnden. Canada had advanced through tough playoff wins over Italy and Scotland but couldn’t keep pace with the clinical Swedes in the final.
Scotland took bronze with an 11-6 win over the United States.The game marked the retirement of Canadian veteran E.J. Harnden and the final broadcast for longtime TSN commentator Vic Rauter after 40 years calling the sport.Edin’s latest victory further solidifies his status as the most successful skip in men’s world curling history.
