Marshall Outlasts Arkansas State 69–62, Advances to WNIT Championship Game

Marshall Dominates! Timaya Lewis-Eutsey Drops 31 as Thundering Herd Storms Punches Ticket to WNIT Final Game

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall women’s basketball is WNIT championship-bound.

Behind a dominant, career-level performance from Timaya Lewis-Eutsey, the Thundering Herd defeated Arkansas State 69–62 in the WNIT semifinals on Wednesday night, controlling nearly the entire game and never trailing once.

Marshall led for 38 minutes and 43 seconds, building an 11-point cushion midway through the third quarter and holding off multiple Arkansas State pushes in the final period.

Lewis-Eutsey Takes Over

Lewis-Eutsey delivered one of the most complete games of the WNIT, finishing with:

  • 31 points

  • 10-of-18 shooting
    10-of-12 from the line
    5 steals
    4 assists
    4 rebounds

Her relentless pressure—offensively and defensively—proved too much for Arkansas State. Late in the fourth quarter, she hit timely buckets and created turnovers that kept the Herd in control.

Marshall Closes Strong

Marshall’s offense found its rhythm when it mattered most. The Herd shot 50% in the fourth quarter, including a key layup by Timberlynn Yeast with 1:42 remaining that effectively sealed momentum. Moments later, Lewis-Eutsey grabbed a defensive rebound to squash Arkansas State’s final attempt at a rally.

The Herd also held a 38–37 rebounding edge, forced 21 Red Wolves turnovers, and turned those mistakes into 23 points, a margin that ultimately decided the game.

Arkansas State Fights Back, But Falls Short

Arkansas State never led but stayed within striking distance thanks to standout play from Bella Weary, who poured in 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting and hit two threes. Cheyenne Rose added 16 points, and the Red Wolves actually outscored Marshall 20–21 in the final quarter.

But the Red Wolves’ struggles from the perimeter—just 25.8% from three—and a costly 2-of-10 performance at the free-throw line were too much to overcome.

Marshall’s Balanced Effort

Beyond Lewis-Eutsey, Marshall received steady contributions:

  • Peyton Ilderton — 9 points, 4 steals
Nakiya Chesterfield — 9 points off the bench
    Bella King — 10 rebounds
Marissa Maier — two key threes

The Herd shot 43.6% overall and 35.3% from deep, while shutting down Arkansas State early and holding them to just six first-quarter points.

Next Stop: The WNIT Final

With the victory, Marshall advances to the WNIT Championship Game, the program’s deepest postseason run in years. The Herd will meet Illinois State in a matchup of two teams peaking at the right moment.

Tip-off details will be announced by the WNIT.
