Switzerland's Schwaller defeats Canada's Einarson to win gold at 2026 World Women’s Curling Championship

Switzerland’s Xenia Schwaller capped a dominant week by defeating Canada’s Kerri Einarson 7–5 to win gold at the World Women’s Curling Championship in Calgary.

After dropping their opening game to Japan’s Satsuki Fujisawa, Schwaller and her team—Selina Gafner, Fabienne Rieder, and Selina Rychiger—responded in remarkable fashion, winning 11 consecutive matches to top the standings. They then beat Sweden’s Isabella WranÃ¥ in the semifinals to reach the final.

In the championship match, Switzerland took control early and never trailed, using precise shot-making to maintain their edge. A key moment came late in the game when Schwaller scored two in the eighth end to regain the lead, before closing out the win with the advantage of the final hammer.

The triumph highlights the team’s rapid rise since winning world junior gold just two years ago and continues an impressive season for the Zurich-based squad.

Canada, who finished the round robin at 10–2 and defeated Japan in the semifinals, were aiming for a third straight world title. However, Einarson had to settle for silver as Schwaller’s consistency proved decisive.
