France Win Six Nations After Crazy 48–46 Match Against England

France won the Six Nations title after beating England 48–46 in a wild and dramatic game in Paris.

The match looked like England might pull off a big surprise. In the 77th minute, England’s Tommy Freeman scored a try that put England in front. It seemed like England had stolen the win, and he celebrated with teammate Henry Pollock right in front of the French fans.

But the game wasn’t over yet.

France quickly got the ball back after the restart. With time already over on the clock, French kicker Thomas Ramos stepped up and kicked a long penalty to win the game for France 48–46.

That last kick didn’t just win the match — it also secured the Six Nations title for France.

Earlier in the day, Ireland national rugby union team had beaten Scotland national rugby union team and were hoping England would stop France. But Ramos’ final kick meant Ireland lost the title in the very last moment.

For England, the result was heartbreaking. They had played much better than in their earlier games, where they lost to Scotland national rugby union team, Ireland national rugby union team, and Italy national rugby union team.

Even with this strong performance, England still had a terrible tournament. They won only 1 out of 5 matches, finishing 5th in the 2026 Six Nations — one of their worst results ever.

England coach Steve Borthwick will now face questions about the team’s future.

England’s next big tests come this summer when they play the world champions South Africa national rugby union team on 4 July, followed by matches against Fiji national rugby union team and Argentina national rugby union team.

These games could be very important for Borthwick’s future as coach.

France crowned Six Nations Champions 2026, Stats, Records.

1.  As France celebrated their third Six Nations triumph in the past five years, England's players looked on in the knowledge their own title aspirations were over long ago.

2.  Defeat completes England's worst ever Six Nations campaign, with just one win from five matches. Even before the championship's expansion in 2000, England had only lost four matches in a single edition twice previously - in 1972 and 1976.

3.  Borthwick's side finished fifth in the 2026 table, matching the historic lows of 2018 and 2021.
