Alfie Burden Beats Stuart Bingham to Crown Snooker Shoot Out

Alfie Burden Claims First Ranking Title, Wins Snooker Shoot Out at 48

In a story of late-career redemption, Alfie Burden defeated former world champion Stuart Bingham 63–8 to win the 2024 Snooker Shoot Out in Blackpool, claiming his first-ever professional ranking title at the age of 48.

The victory, sealed at the iconic Blackpool Tower Circus, sparked emotional celebrations as Burden climbed onto the table in triumph. He will also celebrate his 49th birthday the following day.

Burden, who also won the World Seniors Championship in May, reflected on his long journey: “I’ve had a 30-year career and it has been mainly downs—I’ve underperformed—but tonight is a night for me.” He dedicated the win to his family and friends for their unwavering belief.

The fast-paced Shoot Out format features a single frame lasting a maximum of 10 minutes, with a shot clock of 15 seconds for the first five minutes and just 10 seconds thereafter. Despite a late chance, Bingham—the 2015 world champion and 2014 Shoot Out runner-up—could not mount a comeback, missing a crucial blue when trailing 56–7.

Burden takes home the £50,000 top prize, marking a memorable milestone in a career defined by perseverance and a recent resurgence in form.

Snooker Shoot Out 2025 Rules

The tournament features a unique and fast-paced format:

All matches are contested over a single frame.

Each match has a strict 10-minute time limit.

A shot clock is enforced:

First 5 minutes: 15 seconds per shot.

Final 5 minutes: 10 seconds per shot.

The winner is the player with the most points when the time expires or once all balls are potted.

A foul is called if a shot fails to hit a cushion or enter a pocket, resulting in ball-in-hand for the opponent.

In the event of a tie, a blue-ball shootout decides the winner:

The cue ball is placed in ‘the D’ and the blue ball on its spot.

Players take turns in a sudden-death format to pot the blue.

The draw is randomised before each round to determine the match-ups.
