Saskatchewan Roughriders hold off Montreal Alouettes 25-17 to win 2025 Grey Cup, first title since 2013
Trevor Harris finally has his Grey Cup win as a starter.
The 39-year-old quarterback led the Saskatchewan Roughriders to a 25–17 victory over the Montreal Alouettes, earning MVP honours and his third career championship — but his first as the QB1. Harris was sharp all night, completing 23 of 27 passes for 302 yards, leaving fans wondering whether he’ll retire on top or return for a 14th CFL season.
Saskatchewan’s offence leaned on the ground game, with touchdowns from Shea Patterson (two) and A.J. Ouellette powering the Riders to their first Grey Cup title since 2013.
Trevor Harris earned Grey Cup MVP honours after delivering one of the most efficient championship performances in recent memory. The 39-year-old completed 23 of 27 passes for 302 yards, calmly controlling the game and repeatedly extending drives with pinpoint accuracy. In his first Grey Cup start, Harris played like a quarterback who’d been there many times before, leading Saskatchewan to the title and putting an exclamation point on a career that may now end with a championship.
The win also handed Montreal starter Davis Alexander the first loss of his CFL career. Alexander entered the game undefeated (13–0 as a starter across two seasons), but a lingering hamstring injury limited his mobility, and Saskatchewan’s defence picked him off three times. He still threw for 284 yards but couldn’t escape pressure when it mattered.
The Roughriders controlled much of the game, outscoring Montreal 14–0 in the second quarter and holding a 15–7 halftime lead. Key defensive stops late — including Marcus Sayles recovering a fumble in the end zone — sealed the win despite a late Alouettes push.
With a loud sellout crowd behind them in Winnipeg, Saskatchewan claimed its fifth Grey Cup in franchise history and finally got the better of Montreal after losing to the Als in the 2009 and 2010 championships.
Now all eyes turn to Harris: retire as a champion, or run it back for one more season?
