Northwestern Becomes Bowl-Eligible After Thrilling 38–35 Win Over Minnesota .
The Northwestern Wildcats clinched bowl eligibility with a dramatic 38–35 victory over Minnesota on Saturday at Wrigley Field.
Snapping a three-game skid, the Wildcats earned their sixth win behind a strong second-half surge and a composed final drive that ended with kicker Jack Olson drilling a 33-yard field goal with just 53 seconds left.
Quarterback Preston Stone delivered one of his best performances of the season, completing 25 of 30 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns. Olson also played a key role, hitting three field goals on the day — including the game-winner.
Minnesota held a 21–13 halftime lead, but Northwestern seized control after the break, scoring 25 points and maintaining possession for much of the second half. Even after the Wildcats took the late lead, the Gophers quickly marched down the field thanks to a long kickoff return and a 30-yard strike to Javon Tracy.
Minnesota had a chance to tie the game as time wound down, but kicker Brady Denaburg pushed the potential game-tying attempt wide left, sealing the Wildcats’ thrilling win.
Northwestern’s ground game also shined, with Caleb Komolafe rushing for 129 yards and a touchdown, and Joseph Himon adding 47 yards and another score.
