Manchester City vs Liverpool Live Updates: Score, Stats, Goals, Prediction, How To Watch, Lineups..

Liverpool host Manchester City in the Premier League this afternoon, with Pep Guardiola’s side looking to stay within touching distance of Arsenal after the Gunners’ win over Sunderland.

The rivalry between City and Liverpool has defined the Premier League title race in recent seasons and it could do so again in 2025/26, with City starting the day nine points adrift of the Gunners after last week’s disappointing draw to Spurs.

City are bidding to close back to within six points of Arsenal, having seen the gap widen to nine points when their chief title rivals beat Sunderland yesterday.

Pep Guardiola’s side cannot afford to lose further ground in the title race, but Liverpool also need a victory in their fight to qualify for the Champions League following wins for Manchester United and Chelsea yesterday.

Guehi shuts down the danger.

Wirtz clips a delightful pass over the top for Ekitike to chase.

The French forward surges through the inside-left channel, Guehi holding his ground ahead of him.

Man City team news: Dias could return

As for City, Ruben Dias returned to the squad against Newcastle and could make his first start in a month.

Bernardo Silva missed the Newcastle match in midweek with a hamstring issue and is a doubt.

John Stones is back in training but this game is likely to come too soon.

Jeremy Doku, Josko Gvardiol, Savinho and Mateo Kovacic are all still side-lined through injury.

Meanwhile, there are some question marks over whether Erling Haaland will resume his starting striker role, with positional rival Omar Marmoush netting a midweek brace in the Carabao Cup semis.

Liverpool team news today: Reds' defensive crisis continues

Liverpool are in the midst of an injury crisis, particularly in defence.

Arne Slot said in his pre-match press conference that he hoped Joe Gomez could return on the bench, although he clarified that the defender will not be able to start.

Jeremie Frimpong is still out so Dominik Szoboszlai is set to continue at right-back.

ManCity: Gianluigi Donnarumma returns in goal, with Marc Guehi back in the backline having been ineligible to face the Magpies.
