President Donald Trump to Attend US Open Men’s Final as Guest in Client Suite
President Donald Trump will attend the US Open men’s singles final on Sunday as a guest in a client’s suite, marking his first appearance at the New York Grand Slam since 2015, according to a U.S. Tennis Association spokesperson. The USTA did not disclose the identity of the client hosting Trump.
Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 2 who reached the final after defeating Novak Djokovic, expressed that having a president attend is an honor and beneficial for the sport. “I’ll try not to focus on it or let it make me nervous,” Alcaraz said.
Before entering politics, Trump, a former New York resident, was a frequent presence at the US Open. Now primarily residing at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida when not in Washington, Trump has recently attended other major sporting events, including the Super Bowl in New Orleans, the Daytona 500, UFC fights in Miami and Newark, the NCAA wrestling championships in Philadelphia, and the FIFA Club World Cup final in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The Trump Organization previously held a suite at Arthur Ashe Stadium, located next to the television broadcasting booth, but relinquished it in 2017 during Trump’s first year as president. A sitting president attending the US Open is rare, last occurring when Bill Clinton was present in 2000. Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama attended the tournament’s opening night in 2023.
