Best Ways/Spots to watch Berlin Marathon Live

There are grandstands at the finish and these are free to use but are popular and can be crowded, so arrive early if you plan to wait here to watch the end of the race.

One thing to know: there’s an official meeting point (see below for that) but all runners exit to the north side of the Tiergarten, so plan to end up around the Hauptbahnhof or Bundestag if using public transport and meeting your runner after the race.

  • Start near Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz at 10km then hop on the U2 to Bulowstraße and see your runner around 21km and then walk to 36-37km
  • Go to Oranienburger Tor which is near 8km. Jump on the U6 to Mehringdamm to see runners at 19-20km. Then a 2km walk north takes you to 39-40km on the race.
  • Start near 9km (Rosenthaler Platz U-Bahn) then jump on U8 to Hermannplatz at 16-17km (it’s a 15-minute journey, so plenty of time unless you’re following the elites!). Then go one stop back on U8 and change onto U1/U3 and go to Wittenburgplatz to see your runner at 35-36km.

Where is the Berlin marathon finish line?

You’ve finished! As you pass under the finish line just beyond the Brandenburg Gate, you’ll collect a goodie bag, pick up an alcohol-free beer if you want one, grab your drop bag or poncho, and then you’re free to leave the race village.

There’s a meeting point outside of the finish area at Paul-Löbe-Haus by the Bundestag U-Bahn. There are signs with letters from A-Z, so agree in advance with friends and family where you want to meet them.

The Berlin Marathon race official cutoff time is 5.15pm.

Who will be competing in the 2025 Berlin Marathon, Elite field

This weekend's marathon is set to be the most culturally diverse in Germany history as over 50,000 runners from 156 countries will compete in the main event.

Top Contenders in the Men's Race

The team's hopes are led by Ethiopian star Haymanot Alew. A model of consistency, Alew has finished on the podium in six of his seven career marathons. He demonstrated his Berlin prowess with a third-place finish and a personal best of 2:03:31 in the 2024 race. His proven ability to compete at the highest level makes him a serious threat.

He is joined by Daniel Mateiko, a rising Kenyan talent. While new to the marathon, Mateiko is a world-class half-marathoner with a best time of 58:17. He successfully transitioned to the full distance, running a 2:04:24 for third place in Valencia, proving his readiness for the elite field.

In the men’s race, the starting field includes Sebastian Sawe, Milkesa Mengesha, and Gabriel Geay. With national record holder Kengo Suzuki and Olympic sixth-place finisher Akira Akasaki, Japan’s top runners will be in Berlin, even though the Athletics World Championships will be held in Tokyo just shortly before.

Leading the Women's Challenge

The women's team is led by three-time marathon winner Degitu Azimeraw of Ethiopia. A proven champion with wins in Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Lanzhou, she is a sub-2:20 performer on four occasions. Her personal best of 2:17:58, set when she finished second in London, positions her as a formidable podium contender in Berlin.

Rosemary Wanjiru, Degitu Azimeraw, and Mestawut Fikir are among the favorites in the women’s race (see press release from July 29, 2025, for details). Deborah Schöneborn, Domenika Mayer, Fabienne Königstein, as well as Sebastian Hendel, Johannes Motschmann, Hendrik Pfeiffer, and Haftom Welday represent the national elite. But the fields of skaters, wheelchair racers, and handcyclists are also truly impressive.
