Marcel Hug’s dominance claim men's wheelchair eighth Boston Marathon title 2025, tied for 2nd-most in history..
Marcel Hug’s dominance on Boylston Street continues, as the Swiss racer comes home in 1:21:34 to claim his eighth Boston Marathon title, tied for the second-most in history.
Switzerland's Marcel Hug, known as "The Silver Bullet" for his trademark silver helmet, crossed the finish line first on Monday to win the 2025 Boston Marathon men's wheelchair division for the eighth time.
Hug couldn’t quite replicate his pace from last year, when he set the course record for the third time, but it was a comfortable win as Hug finished several minutes ahead of Daniel Romanchuk in second.
Hug joins Jean Driscoll, the dominant women’s wheelchair racer of the 1990s, with an eighth laurel wreath. He trails only South Africa’s Ernst van Dyk, who won 10 titles in the division in the 2000s and early 2010s.
Romanchuk finished second behind Hug in a time of 1:25:56.
Hug, 39, holds the Boston Marathon course record of 1:17:06, which he set in 2023. He has now won the race eight times.
Marcel Hug quotes after 2025 Boston historic title
Marcel Hug was interviewed following his big win at Monday's race.
He said he was feeling happy and satisfied after his eighth win.
- "Still need some time to realize what happened really, but I'm so happy," Hug said.
- Hug was asked about his strategy for this year's race.
- "About the same strategy, just have a good entrance, good pace, high pace, my downhill section was not so good like last year but after 10K I broke away from the group, and then everything went well," Hug said.
