And yet, amongst the chaos, another small slice of American history took place: the first Super Bowl.
A somewhat trivial event in between all the other more important events, the big game on the gridiron has withstood the test of time. Now in 2025, the Super Bowl turns 59.

The New England Patriots have appeared in the Super Bowl 11 times, the most of any NFL team. The San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys are tied for the second-most with eight appearances each.

Pittsburgh and Dallas have the unique distinction of playing each other more than any other team combination in Super Bowl history with three matchups.
