The wait is finally over.

After sitting idle for nearly two weeks (unless you count the Pro Bowl, and who counts the flag football?) since we had football. Now, we have just a little wait until we get to see the biggest game of the season.

It’s only fitting that the Seattle Seahawks’ defense delivered the dagger Sunday. With the Patriots desperate for points, Seahawks linebacker Uchenna Nwosu scooped up a forced fumble and took it all the way to the endzone for a late score.

That put the Seahawks up 29-7 with four minutes to play.

His fifth field goal of the game, this latest one from 29 yards out, extended Seattle's lead to 22-7 with 5:35 left in regulation.

The Patriots finally showed some life on offense in the fourth quarter … but it wasn’t long before the Seahawks bounced back. While Seattle didn’t score on the next drive, the team did pin the Patriots deep in their own territory with a punt.

Patriots wide receiver Mack Hollins made a spectacular touchdown catch on a 35-yard pass from Drake Maye to show some life on offense.


The much-needed touchdown capped a speedy, three-play, 65-yard drive that included Hollins catching a 24-yard pass before the touchdown.

New England is perilously close to becoming the first team to ever be shut out in a Super Bowl.

The Patriots have five first downs and 78 total yards in one of the worst offensive performances by any NFL team this season.

Smith-Njigba is now going to the locker room after having been examined for a possible concussion.

The Seahawks wide receiver was seen being tended to on the sideline, with trainers applying a bandage to one of his ankles. Njigba didn't enter the medical tent, but it will be something to monitor as the game nears its fourth quarter.

Seattle continues to stop the Patriots dead in their tracks when on offense. The Seahawks managed that again in the third quarter, racking up their fourth sack and pressuring Drake Maye enough to get him off rhythm.

New England forced a three-and-out in Seattle territory and the Patriots took over at their own 27-yard line.

Drake Maye is having a rough game. It’s not the worst Super Bowl performance by a QB, though

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye passed for 48 yards in the first half of Super Bowl XL against the Seattle Seahawks.

That’s a pretty low total for one half — but it’s not even the lowest amount of passing yards for an entire Super Bowl.








Questionable punt decision by the Patriots

 New England just chose to punt in a 4-and-1 situation on its on 40, which is somewhat of a head-scratcher given the game's current state.

The Patriots once again went three-and-out to open the quarter. This one was even more frustrating, as the team had a 3rd and 1 and Drake Maye missed an open receiver. The Patriots aren’t in a place where the team needs to rush it, and did not try for a 4th-down conversion.

It's not just the Seattle and New England offenses that are ice cold.

The mercury has fallen to 57 degrees here in a game that had started in warmth and brilliant sunshine.

Finally PATS some foot is back in football

The Patriots' bend-but-don't break defense is keeping New England competitive, but Myers' boot from 41 has extended Seattle's lead to 12-0.
Myers is 4/4 on field goals accounting for all 12 Seahawks points.

Walker has hit triple digits, now having rushed for 100 yards in 17 carries.

That goes along with a pair of catches for 26 yards for the Seattle running back.

This is the 15th Super Bowl in which one team has been shut out in the first half — and as of yet, none of the goose-egg teams have gone on to win.


Darnold and Seahawks need to protect the football 

 Darnold threw 14 picks in 447 regular season passes, or 1 every 32 throws. 

 Maye, as rushed as he was in the first half, at least protected ball, something he did well in the regular season. The Patriots QB tossed just eight picks in 492 passes, or 1 every 61.5 attempts.

Lady Gaga, wearing a blue dress, also performed a salsa version of "Die With a Smile" and shared a dance with Bad Bunny.

Seattle running back Kenneth Walker III has been the only offensive bright spot so far. He has carried the ball 14 times for 94 yards, including a run of 30 yards. If not for him, this game might be scoreless.




It's a 9-0 Seattle lead before Halftime Show

Myers connected from 41 yards out and the Seahawks have what feels like a commanding 9-0 lead with 11 seonds left in the half.

One play earlier, Darnold went for a big play looking for JSN at the goal line. New England corner Christian Gonzalez almost picked it off as the ghost of Malcolm Butler nearly haunted Seattle again.

Seattle with another chance to take a two-score lead

With 2:50 left in the second quarter, Seattle has a first down at its own 43-yard line, in need of just a few first downs to be position for a field goal.

Maye has been under constant pressure and even a 9-0 Seattle lead could be tough to overcome.

The Seahawks are outgaining the Patriots 149-37 so far, but the game remains within one score.

Drake Maye and the New England offense will need to improve on their 2.1 yards per play if they want to have a prayer of winning Super Bowl 60.

That was a key stop for the Patriots as the Seahawks had reached the New England 42-yard line.

One more first down could have put Seattle into position for a field goal — and even as young as this game is, a 9-0 lead would've felt significant.

In these 1½ quarters of play, Seattle's defense has surrendered a mere 37 yards in 18 plays.

New England has just three first downs.





What was the lowest-scoring Super Bowl ever?


Super Bowl 53 was the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in NFL history. The New England Patriots won their sixth Lombardi Trophy by beating the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 during a game where just one touchdown was scored.

Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai suffered a shoulder injury. He is officially listed as questionable to return.


Seahawks, leading 6-0, came out for their first drive of 2Q on a mission.

Walker spearheaded an 8-play, 55-yard drive and Myers finished it off with his second field goal – a 39-yard make. Walker went off the left side for 30 yards and added a 29-yard rush on the opposite sideline. That was a concerning 2:54 minutes of football for New England fans.

Seattle secured the game's first sack with Derrick Hall bringing down Drake Maye for a 10-yard loss.

Derick Hall got to Maye to force second-and-20. Maye picked up a big chunk of it back with an 11-yard scramble on second down. But an incomplete pass on third killed the drive, and the Seahawks have the ball back and a 3-0 lead.

Seattle's first drive suddenly stalled as the Seahawks failed to convert on third-and-8 from New England's 15-yard line.

The Seahawks, who went 51 yards on 8 plays, had to settle for a field goal from Jason Myers, taking a 3-0 lead.

Green Day rocks out with 'American Idiot'


Green Day played their hit “American Idiot” to a crowd of roaring fans wearing foam hands and waving Super Bowl flags.

Though the song is considered a political anthem, the band refrained from any political takes they usually do.

Instead, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong ended the set by saying "Welcome to the Bay, it's Super Bowl 60" as a giant banner that read Super Bowl x Green Day went up behind the group.

“I have a feeling this is going to be a great Super Bowl. I’ve watched all season. I’ve seen these two teams just win, win, win,” said the president, seated behind the Resolute Desk.

What Tom Brady said about PATS just before the Big Game?


Tom Brady joined host Jim Gray for a Monday episode and tabbed Seattle as the more likely team to lift the Lombardi Trophy tonight. 

“We were a pretty good team in 2007 and lost to the Giants,” Brady said. “I just think if these two teams played 10 times, Seattle probably wins six and New England probably wins four.” 

"New England, of course, will look to prove the former quarterback wrong once the game kicks off at 6: 30 p.m."

Four people have attended all 59 Super Bowls, and all four of them are in San Francisco to attend Super Bowl 60 today..

Three of the four are fans and old friends Don Crisman, Gregory Eaton and Tom Henschel, who have been calling themselves the “Never Missed a Super Bowl Club,” and were featured in a Super Bowl commercial for Visa in 2010. 

Two of the fans featured in that commercial have since died, but Crisman, Eaton and Henschel are still alive and still going to the Super Bowl every year.

One other person, photographer John Biever, has taken pictures at all 59 Super Bowls and will do so again.





Fast Fact:  If the Patriots win today, they will be the first team in history to have seven Super Bowl wins. They won six with quarterback Tom Brady, and former coach Bill Belichick.

It all comes down to quarterback play for me. Seattle checks more boxes than the Patriots, but I have no confidence in Sam Darnold. I could be wrong, Drake Maye has never played in the Super Bowl either. I think he'll be the better player. Prediction: New England 24, Seattle 20.
